Trauma-focused therapy aims to help an individual cope with the emotional response caused by a traumatic event. These events include instances of childhood sexual abuse, rape, sex trafficking, terrorist attack, physical assault, intimate partner violence, race-based trauma, bullying, community violence, natural disasters and forced migration. Victims of trauma often suffer from post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), anxiety, phobias, panic attacks, nightmares, depression, substance use and dissociation. The goal of trauma-focused therapy is to help the victims process their thoughts, emotions and memories around the traumatic event and become liberated from its negative impact.
